Interior design is getting a lot of attention in Australia this year with the opening of the National Home Design Colleges in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
“Our goal is to empower students, teachers, and staff to design a home with the most natural feel,” said a spokesperson for the colleges.
The first three centres opened in March and August and will be run by independent design students.
More than 30,000 students are currently enrolled, the spokesperson said.
Students will be required to have at least a Bachelor’s degree in home design and will have access to the design and development resources they need.
In March, the National Housing Authority announced it was extending the period of time a student can apply for a home loan from four to 18 months.
An estimated $50 billion of capital is spent annually on home loans, with the average loan amount sitting at $3,800,000.
